Bought one for my dad.
He is not the type who talks much so I wasn't expecting much tbh.
Took him almost 3 months to finish it
But when he gave it back there were pages and pages written. One of the letters even had an old
black and white photo attached to it. Had never seen it before.
The box is sitting in my cupboard now. I pull out a random letter sometimes.
One of the best gifts I've given honestly.

Got this for my mom.
Honestly thought shed answer a few and forget about it. But she kept at it. Every time I'd visit she would say "I finished another envelope."
Reading them later was quite emotional. Not because of anything dramatic. Just small things. Stories from her school days, how scared she was when she got married, things like that.
Also weirdly nice to have something in her handwriting. We don't really write letters anymore.
Everything is whatsapp now.
Very happy I bought this.

Saw an ad for this and ordered without thinking too much.
My mum opened the first envelope and just sat quietly reading it. Then she said something like "these are such nice questions"
What surprised me was how much she enjoyed writing them. She would actually make herself tea and sit with the letters in the evening.
Sounds silly but I think this gift gave her time to think about her own life. Not something we do very often.
The finished box means a lot to me now.

Frequently asked questions
What exactly is Ladoo Letters?
Ladoo Letters is a box with 12 envelopes and 36 guided prompts designed to help a parent write handwritten letters for their child. Each envelope is named after a real human feeling — like loneliness, courage, grief, or love. The parent answers the prompts in their own words and handwriting. The child opens each envelope whenever that feeling finds them in life. It is not a journal. Not a workbook. Not a therapy exercise. It is a collection of a parent's real memories, stories, and wisdom — written specifically for one child, to be kept for a lifetime.
Who writes the letters?
The parent does. The prompts inside each envelope guide the writing — asking simple, specific questions about real memories, real feelings, and real experiences from the parent's life.
The letters are entirely in the parent's own handwriting. That is the point.
What is Guided Letter Writing and how does it work?
Guided Letter Writing is a one-hour support call with a member of the Ladoo Letters team.
Instead of sitting alone with a blank page, your parent speaks. Our team member listens, asks gentle follow-up questions, and helps draw out the memories and feelings behind each prompt. Those spoken thoughts are then shaped into letters that your parent handwrites in their own way.
It is particularly helpful for parents who find writing difficult, parents who are elderly, or parents who carry a great deal to say but struggle to know where to start.
Your parent's voice. Their truth. Their handwriting on the page.

What if my parent is not good at writing?
This is the most common worry, and it is not a problem at all.
The prompts are designed to help anyone begin — even someone who has never written a personal letter in their life. They ask simple questions about a memory, a feeling, what the parent wants their child to know.
But if writing still feels like a barrier, we offer a service called Guided Letter Writing. Through a one-hour support call, a member of our team gently walks your parent through each prompt as a quiet conversation. Their spoken memories and thoughts are then shaped into letters that they handwrite in their own way before sealing each envelope.
It is still entirely their words, their truth, and their handwriting on the page. We simply help them find the beginning.

Is this suitable for mothers and fathers both?
Yes. We have created separate question sets for mothers and fathers because both relationships carry different emotions, experiences, and ways of expressing love. A mother and a father often guide, protect, and remember life differently. The prompts are designed keeping those emotional differences in mind, so the letters feel deeply personal and authentic to each parent. Many families choose to gift both versions separately over time.
Can they write in Hindi or Hinglish?
Absolutely. The prompts are in English and in Hindi, but the letters can be written in any language — Hindi, Hinglish, your mother tongue, or a mix of everything. Whatever comes most naturally is what belongs in these envelopes. Your child wants your voice, not your vocabulary.
How long should each letter be?
As long as it needs to be, and not a word longer. Some letters may fill two pages. Others may be five honest lines. Both are equally valuable.
The prompts help you write something real. Length has nothing to do with it.
When should my parent give me the letters?
That is entirely up to them. Some families give the full box when the child leaves home for the first time. Some give it at a wedding. Some simply leave it behind without a word.
Individual envelopes can also be given at specific moments — when you are going through a loss, a heartbreak, self-doubt, or a big decision. The box is designed to be flexible that way.
There is no single right moment. The only thing that matters is that the letters exist.
What kind of questions are inside the envelopes?
Each envelope has three prompts. The first asks the parent to recall a specific memory from their own life. The second asks what that memory meant to them. The third asks what they would want you to carry forward from it.
The questions are quiet and personal — about loneliness, fear, love, joy, failure, what gave life meaning. They are not forms to fill. They are conversations waiting to begin.
How is this different from a biography?
Ladoo Letters is a handwritten collection of thoughts, memories, advice, and emotions directly from your parent to you.
The beauty of it is the handwriting itself. Years later, you are not just reading words — you are holding a part of your parent in their own writing.
Our biography service is much more elaborate. We conduct detailed interviews, collect stories and family inputs, organise everything professionally, and turn an entire life journey into a beautifully written book.
Ladoo Letters is intimate and personal. A biography is a complete life documentation project.

Is this better than a video recording?
Video recordings are wonderful. But a handwritten letter does something different. It can be held, re-read, returned to in a quiet moment. It does not require a device or a charged battery. It waits patiently until you are ready for it.
Many people describe reading a parent's letter as a completely different experience from watching them on a screen — more intimate, more still.
If you are looking for a full video memoir or life story documentation for your parent, we offer those services as well. Visit [ladoo.ooo](https://ladoo.ooo) to explore.
Can elderly parents do this?
Yes, and often they are the ones who find it most meaningful. Elderly parents tend to carry the richest memories and the deepest unsaid things. The prompts are simple enough that anyone can begin.
If writing for long periods is physically tiring, they can write a little at a time, over many days. Guided Letter Writing is also a good option for parents who find writing difficult or exhausting.
Can Ladoo Letters become a family heirloom?
Over time, yes. A child who receives these letters and becomes a parent themselves may one day write their own set for their child. The questions inside are not time-specific. The feelings they speak to are universal. There is something quietly powerful about a family where each generation writes honestly to the next.
Is this a good gift?
It is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give a parent.
Most parents are not lacking things. What they are often lacking is a reason to sit down and say what they have been meaning to say for years. Ladoo Letters gives them that reason.
You can gift the mother's version, the father's version, or both. We also offer gifting options for other occasions — a child leaving home, a milestone birthday, a wedding. Visit https://ladoo.ooo to explore all gifting options.
For any questions not covered here, you are welcome to write to us. We are a small team and we read every message.
